I had to chuckle at this months Whistler diaries, the last few lines:
"Question: Why do manufacturers still spec long stems on many bikes they market as aggressive trail eating machines? Answer: Its those f**king forums and the bloody clueless goons who live in them" Haha nother thing were being blamed for. Nother good column from Seb Kemp. |

well you've got to blame someone!
was a great article though, made me chuckle too...especially cos it reminded me of certain people that I know who still insist on running long stems. |

my dad bought an awesome second hand XC bike from the lbs. it's some giant thing with full carbon frame, fox forks, full XT and avid juicys. really nice bike, light as a feather and fitted with a stem that was seriously about 900mm long. it was unrideable. such horrible, scary handling that totally ruined the bike. my dad though was very reluctant to change it because he thinks that if the experts at giant fitted a stem that could be used as a baseball bat then it would be rude and foolish to second guess them. so when he rides it he grips the bars in terror and topples over at every fun part of any trail. when i steal it i stick my 10 year old roox danny on it and it's lightning fast everywhere i love it.
so yeah that's my stem story...
